Worship brings us together as a community of faith to celebrate God’s word of life and salvation in Jesus Christ. It is our opportunity to share in praise and prayer around Word and Sacrament. Holy Communion is celebrated at all worship services.

Music is an important part of every worship service. From traditional to contemporary, Calvary offers a wide variety of opportunities to use your musical gifts to the glory of God. Advent
This Season celebrates the preparation and anticipation of the coming of the promised Messiah. Calvary has an Advent Sermon Series, the tradition of the Advent wreath, and a beautifully decorated Sanctuary to welcome in the New Born King. This year Advent begins on November 29.

Christmas Eve
Family Worship, 4:00pm
Led by our Sunday School and families at Calvary, this service includes a Christmas narration in costume, a youth band, handbells, choirs, and scripture readings walking through the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Scripture paired with beloved Christmas Carols on pipe organ tells the story of our Savior’s birth. The Sanctuary is beautifully decorated with the manger, Christmas trees, lights, and gorgeous poinsettias.

With the coming of the new day, shouts of joy echo for the newborn Messiah. Worship with beloved Christmas Carols, pipe organ, mountains of poinsettias, and Scripture readings telling the birth of Jesus Christ.

Epiphany
On the day of Epiphany, January 6, the church celebrates the revelation of Christ to all nations as represented by the magi who come to worship Jesus. The church calendar recognizes the season of Epiphany from January 6 until the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday which is celebrated as the Transfiguration of our Lord.

Transfiguration Sunday (March 6, 2011)
Matthew 17:2 “And he was transfigured before them [Peter, James, and John], and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white.” This Sunday celebrates the transfiguration of Jesus, as recorded in all three Synoptic Gospels: Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9.

Ash Wednesday (March 9, 2011)
Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten journey of forty days, and marks the start of our Lenten Supper at Calvary. The ashen cross placed on the forehead reminds us of our mortality, our need for repentance, and our God as the sole restorer of death to life.

Palm Sunday (April 17, 2011)
Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week. It celebrates the story of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where people spread palm branches and clothing before Him. On this Sunday, we recreate the scene through a processional around the church, led by a donkey and “disciples” dressed in costume.

Holy Week
Wednesday Tenebrae Worship with Saint John Vianney Catholic Parish (Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 7 pm)
Recognizing our common foundation in Christ, we celebrate the Wednesday Tenebrae (literally translates to darkness) of Holy week with Saint John Vianney Catholic Parish, located across the street from Calvary. In odd years, our worship begins at SJV with readings and choir lead music. (In even years, worship begins at Calvary.) We process by candlelight to the opposite church for the conclusion of worship, with refreshments and fellowship to follow.

Maundy Thursday (April 21, 2011 at 7 pm)
The gathering of the Last Supper that Jesus celebrated with his disciples is remembered for the love Christ showed in the washing of feet of His disciples and instituting the Lord’s Supper.

Good Friday (April 22, 2011)
Bring your children and grandchildren for a hands-on Worship walking though Palm Sunday to Easter. This Worship includes palms, bread, a Chalice, Paschal candle, lilies, and eggs as we travel through Holy Week.
Good Friday Brookfield Area ELCA Congregational Worship, noon
Join our area ELCA congregations for a time of Worship together as we remember the passion of Jesus Christ. St. John’s Lutheran Church is hosting Worship this year, with musical guests from each congregation participating in Worship.
Good Friday Tenebrae, 7:00pm
Come to Calvary, the site of the crucifixion of Jesus. Witness the extinguishing of the candles, the Passion readings, and the stripping of the altar.

Easter Vigil (Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 7 pm)
A unique Worship remembering the baptisms in the early church, where following their midnight baptism on Saturday, preparations continued throughout the evening until their first Communion Easter dawn. This Worship includes readings from the Old Testament and a procession into the Sanctuary by candlelight.

Easter Worship & Easter Breakfast (April 24,2011; Worship at 8:15 am & 10:45 am)
This is the feast of victory and a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. The Senior Choir, Celebration Ringers, Easter lilies on the nave of the Sanctuary, the area right around the altar, and our beautiful Easter decorations provide a joyful atmosphere to declare the glorious news of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter Breakfast is from 9:30am to 10:30am in Fellowship Hall.

Pentecost (May 23, 2010)
Fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ, Pentecost was the day on which the Holy Spirit came down to the Apostles, marking the beginning of the Christian Church. Acts chapter 2 records this event that occurred in the upper room with Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Reformation Sunday (October 31, 2010)
On this Sunday, we celebrate the founding of the Lutheran Church, initiated by the theologian Martin Luther. Throughout the writings of Martin Luther, he stressed that we are justified through faith, by grace apart from works of the law.
